Non-Laser Tattoo Removal Pre & After Care

Non Laser Tattoo Removal Pre-Care

To achieve the best results from your non-laser tattoo removal treatment, it’s essential to prepare your skin properly.

Following these pre-care instructions will help optimise your skin’s condition and minimise any risks during the procedure.

7 Days Before Treatment:

  • Avoid dyeing your hair or eyebrows, as this can cause irritation to the treatment area.
  • Refrain from picking or plucking at the tattooed area, as this can lead to inflammation and disrupt the skin’s natural healing process.
  • Do not undergo any laser treatments on or near the area to be treated, as this can interfere with the removal process.
  • Avoid Botox treatments for at least one month before and after your tattoo removal appointment, as this can affect the healing process and results.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen, as these can increase the risk of bleeding and sensitivity during the procedure.
  • Discontinue the use of Retinol, Vitamin A, and any products containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Glycolic Acid, or Lactic Acid, as they can make the skin more sensitive.
  • Refrain from tanning, sunbeds, or prolonged sun exposure to the treatment area, as this can irritate the skin and make the procedure less effective.
  • Ensure any areas to be treated are free from irritation, cuts, or active acne, as these can interfere with the procedure.

24-48 Hours Before Treatment:

  • Do not consume alcohol or caffeine within 24 hours of your appointment, as this can thin your blood and increase the likelihood of excessive bleeding during the session.
  • Stay hydrated and eat a light meal before the treatment to ensure you feel comfortable and stable throughout the procedure.

On the Day of the Treatment:

  • Before the appointment ensure the area is clean and free from lotions, oils, or any other products.
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that will not rub against the treatment area, as this could cause irritation.
  • If you are currently taking any medications or have health concerns, consult your doctor prior to your appointment to confirm you are fit for the treatment.

Make sure you are not undergoing chemotherapy or any treatments that could affect your healing or immune system

Non Laser Tattoo Removal After-Care

Proper aftercare is crucial for ensuring the best results and minimising the risk of complications. Carefully follow these guidelines to help your skin heal effectively after your non laser tattoo removal.

First 24 Hours:

  • Keep the treated area dry for the first 24 hours. Avoid any contact with water or moisture during this time.
  • Some swelling, redness, or tenderness is normal in the first day. You may experience a mild burning sensation similar to sunburn, which should subside.

After the First 24 Hours:

  • Clean the area gently with the “Sterilised water that can be purchased from a pharmacy, Pat dry with a clean towel—do not rub.
  • Apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment (as provided by your technician) to keep the area moisturised and to promote healing. Do this 2-3 times a day for the first 7 days or as instructed by your technician.
  • Avoid picking or scratching at any scabs that form, as this can lead to scarring or pigment retention. Allow the skin to heal naturally.

Key Rules for the First Week:

  • Avoid water exposure to the treated area outside of gentle cleaning. This includes swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and baths.
  • No heavy exercise or activities that cause excessive sweating for at least 5 days, as sweating can introduce bacteria and cause irritation.
  • Do not apply makeup or other cosmetic products to the treated area for at least 10 days.
  • No sun exposure on the treated area for at least 2 weeks. If you must go outside, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 on the area, once it has started to heal.

What to Expect During Healing:

  • The area will likely scab, flake, or peel as the skin heals. Do not pick or remove scabs, as this can cause scarring or delay the healing process.
  • You may notice the skin appearing pink or lighter in the treated area as it regenerates. This is a normal part of the healing process.
  • Complete healing of the area can take between 4-6 weeks. During this time, the pigment will gradually fade, and the skin will begin to normalise. You may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.

Long-Term Aftercare:

  • Once the area has healed, continue to protect it from direct sun exposure by applying sunscreen to prevent further pigmentation changes.
  • Avoid treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments on the area for at least 4 weeks, as these could affect the healing process.
  • If any light areas or adjustments are needed, book your follow-up appointment as advised by your technician.

By following these pre-care and aftercare instructions, you will help your skin recover properly and achieve the best possible results from your treatment. If you have any concerns or experience unusual symptoms during healing, contact your technician for advice.
